High Holiday Fact Sheet

2010 - 5771

With the coming of our New Year, Beth Sholom members and guests will have the opportunity to participate in numerous High Holiday options.  Please encourage your friends, relatives and neighbors to join us by attending one of our inspiring services. All of our services will be under the leadership and direction of Rabbi Tessler who will be assisted by Rabbi Antine.

Tefillah Services

  • Traditional High Holiday Service in Epstein Sanctuary -- the Musaf Service will be led by Abe Cherrick and integrates familiar and new melodies enhanced by congregational enthusiasm.
  • Interactive Service in Abramson Social Hall -- led by Rabbi Aaron Frank and follows the traditional liturgy with additional commentary and spirited participation.
  • Sephardi Service in Bobrow Chapel – the customary Sephardi High Holiday tunes and traditions make this a warm and engaging service.
  • Blair Minyan – led by Rabbi Berliant and Cantor Gus Goldberger.

Appeals

Chai Appeal: It is a tradition for our shul to ask members and guests to participate in this annual appeal.  The tzedakah raised during this appeal is vitally important to the financial health of the shul. By participating in this appeal you will fulfill the mitzvah of your tzedakah obligations for Yom Kippur.  In addition, as a thank you for your support, you will be entitled to send Mitzvah Cards as an expression of “Mazel Tov, "Thank You”, “Get Well” or “Sympathy”.  From July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010, the shul office will send Mitzvah Cards to anyone you specify.  We hope you will join the many families who annually contribute to the Chai Appeal.

Volunteers and Decorum

Our Professional and Lay Leadership are doing everything possible to offer a wide range of meaningful High Holiday services, but without appropriate decorum, each person’s religious experience is significantly diminished.  You can play a most important role in our effort to provide an appropriate High Holiday atmosphere in any of the following ways:

  • Volunteer to be a Service Usher. Please contact the synagogue office.
  • Volunteer to be a “Doc-On-Call”. Please contact the synagogue office.
  • Refrain from conversation during services.
  • Keep your children with you or have them attend any of our Youth Services.
  • Help maintain the sanctity of the Yamim Noraim throughout the entire building.

Your understanding, patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated!
